Professor Ma. Corazón Jimenez-Tan is the new Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. Her priority is the conduct of consultations with the University Student Council, dormitory residents and student organizations to collectively design, implement, monitor and evaluate OVCSA programs. VC Marion said part of her priorities is to ensure the active status and diversity of almost 300 university-based and more than 200 college-based student organizations at UPD to support UP’s mission of promoting the holistic development and leadership capacities of the Iskolars ng Bayan. She obtained her BA Communication major in Communication Research from the College of Mass Communication in 1984 and her master’s degree in Community Development from the College of Social Work and Community Development (CSWCD) in 1996. She joined the University in 1992 as a senior lecturer at the CSWCD and was promoted to Assistant Professor in 2000. She was appointed as the UPDGO coordinator in June 2008. Tan worked as Information and Advocacy Officer at the United Nations Development Program Asia Pacific Gender Equality Network from June 2001 to November 2002. She served as coordinator for the Research and Publications of the Center for Women’s Resources from 1992 to 1998. She served as resource person and facilitator at the 10th Women Regional Workshop Asian Credit Union Forum held in Bangkok, Thailand in 2009. VC Tan’s most recent research and scholarly works include A Mid-term Evaluation of the Implementation of the Philippine Plan for Gender and Development (2010), a research commissioned by the Philippine Commission for Women. She was part of the Philippine Informal Economy Budget Research, a research conducted by the Women and Development Unit for Women in Informal Employment Globalizing and Organizing in 2008. She has published a number of scholarly works, the most recent of which are: Organizing Communities for Social Protection, Sustainable Livelihoods and Disaster Preparedness: Reflections on the COPE-Bikol BDRC Pilot Project in Building Disaster-Resilient Communities: Stories and Lessons from the Philippines in 2010; and Chapter 2 of the Community Development 11 textbook entitled The Context of Community Development: The Dynamics of Development in the Philippines, From Historical and Global Perspectives.
